THE ENGLISH ZONE · A SIMPLE 90 DAY PLAN
How to Improve Your English in 90 Days
Let me be honest with you upfront.
You will not become fluent in 90 days. I couldn't do it. You can't do it. Nobody can become fluent in any language in 90 days.
That's why I didn't say "fluent in 90 days." I said improve your English in 90 days.
I learned English before YouTube. Before smartphones. Before social media. And of course, before AI. And I became fluent in less than two years. I could speak with confidence, without being afraid of mistakes, and without worrying about what to say next.
Here's what I did from the very beginning, and I promise you, you can do it too.
What you can become in 90 days
Not fluent. But you can become:
someone who is serious about learning English
someone with a plan, a system, and a daily routine
someone who makes real progress every single day
Because with random practice, nobody becomes fluent. So grab a notebook and a pen. Let's start.
Lesson 1: Less is more
Write this down: less is more.
Today we have more English teachers, apps, podcasts, and courses than ever before. And now we have AI too. You would think this makes learning easier. But for many learners, it makes things more confusing.
The other night, I went to buy ice cream. If there are only two flavors, it's easy: "This one or that one? I'll take this one." But the whole aisle was ice cream. I couldn't choose!
English is the same. One teacher says, "Practice grammar." Another says, "No, practice vocabulary." So you spend hours searching for the best lesson, the best method, the best app. And you don't spend that time actually learning English.
You don't need 20 English teachers. You don't need dozens of apps.
You need a few good lessons and a simple plan you can follow every day.
Ziyad, The English Zone
When I learned English, I didn't have much. I had an MP3 player with maybe one or two gigabytes of storage. On it, I had a lot of English podcasts, audio lessons and stories that I listened to every single day. That's it. And those lessons were enough to make me fluent. I also want to mention that I was in college studying English.
But my main fluency and confidence came from my own lessons and practice outside the classroom.
Here’s what you need
Keep it simple. You only need three things:
A notebook
Your phone, tablet, or laptop
A pair of headphones
Then find:
One or two teachers on YouTube you enjoy learning with. If you don't like the teacher, you won't learn from them. And stay away from teachers who promise you fluency in 90 days!
One or two English podcasts. You can listen while you drive, cook, or go for a walk. (You can find my podcast, The English Zone, on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.)
And here's something most learners don't do: take notes. Write down useful words and expressions. Not everything, just the important things. Then come back and review them. If you never review, you will forget most of it.
The practice plan for 90 days
Maybe you're thinking, "I need to find 90 lessons for 90 days?" No.
You only need about 20 lessons.
Why? Because most learners skip the most important part of practicing: repetition.
You watch a lesson once and move on to the next. You have to repeat the same lesson more than once.
But I don't mean repeating like a robot. You stay with the same lesson for 4 to 5 days, and each day you focus on something different. It's like the gym: one day chest, one day shoulders, one day legs. Same gym, different focus.
THE 5 DAY METHOD
One lesson. Five days. Five different focuses.
Day 1: Understand
Listen and focus on the main idea. How much do you understand? 50%? 70%? If it's 70% or more, great. You don't need every word.
Day 2: Grammar and vocabulary
Same lesson, new focus. Write down new words, expressions, and grammar. Learn them in sentences, not as single words.
Day 3: Pronunciation
Pause. Go back ten seconds. Listen and repeat. Copy how the speaker says difficult words until your mouth gets used to the sounds.
Day 4: Shadowing
Put on your headphones and speak with the speaker, like a shadow. Copy their pronunciation, rhythm, and emotion.
Day 5: Summarize
Tell the lesson in your own words, without looking at your notes. Record your voice on your phone and listen to yourself.
Then move on to the next lesson and repeat the method again. Stay with each lesson for 4 to 5 days, and 20 lessons will take you through your 90 days.
How much time do you need?
30 minutes to one hour a day. If one hour is too much, start with 30 minutes.
What matters more than time is consistency.
Can you come back tomorrow for another 20 minutes? And the next day? And the next?
If English is important to you, you have to make time for it. And when you sit down to study, remove distractions. Put your phone on Do Not Disturb. Open your notebook. Focus.
Distraction is the thief of learning.
Look back after 90 days
This is why your notebook is so important. I still have my notebook from when I was learning English. When I read it now, I think, "What? These are such simple words! How did I not know them?"
That's how you see your progress. After 90 days, open your notebook and look at how far you've come.
Follow this plan, and in 90 days you will see real improvement in your grammar, your vocabulary, your accent, and most importantly, your confidence.
5 Words to Know
consistency: doing something again and again, every day.
“Consistency is more important than studying for many hours.”
repetition: doing or hearing the same thing many times.
“Repetition helps you remember new words.”
shadowing: speaking at the same time as a speaker and copying them.
“I practice shadowing with my headphones on.”
distraction: something that takes your attention away.
“My phone is my biggest distraction.”
summarize: to say the main ideas in a short way.
“Can you summarize the lesson in two minutes?”
My final advice
Please stop looking for more apps, more teachers, and more courses. Stop jumping from one teacher to another.
You are already smart. You just need a plan, a system, and a good method to follow every single day. That's how I learned English, and that's how you can do it too.
