Let me ask you something.
When you try to watch a video lesson, listen to a podcast, or read a book,
what happens to your attention/focus after 30 seconds?
You start thinking about other things.
You don’t even know what the speaker is talking about after 30 seconds.

Like, you are trying to read this newsletter right now, but your brain is telling you to skip it and move on to something more exciting because this is too boring and you can’t focus.
This is really dangerous because the shorter your attention span, the less capable you are to retain and keep information.
So the shorter your attention, the weaker your retention.
Retention of information, knowledge, language, skills and so forth.

Meaning? If you don’t train your brain and mind to focus longer,
you will not be able to achieve your goals and grow in any area of your life.

Do you want to grow and become a more successful person?

You need something extremely important:
knowledge through reading, listening and observing.

In order to improve any area of your life, you need information from books, lectures, podcasts, courses, newsletters (like this one) because the information will help you take action towards your goals.
Without that information and knowledge, you don’t know what to do.
With that information, you take action towards whatever goal you want to achieve.

What happens when you can’t focus for more than 30 seconds? Nothing happens.

You can’t finish a page or listen to a 20 minute lesson without checking your phone 20 times. This is the reason you can’t attain (learn and acquire) and retain (keep) new information.

So, how can we expand our attention and increase your retention in 4 simple steps?

  1. Remove distractions around you.
This is the number one reason you can’t focus. There are so many distractions around you.
    ‣ your phone
    ‣ notifications
    ‣ TV
    ‣ your tablet
    ‣ video games
    ‣ useless apps
Anywhere you look around you, there are distractions.
The first step is to remove or reduce these distractions.
When you are listening to a lesson, attending a lecture, watching a video lesson on YouTube, reading a book, you MUST reduce these distractions.

Put your phone on do not disturb (DND) and be in a quiet place.
Reduce the noise that you have around you.
Create an atmosphere (a vibe) that encourages learning and focus.

If you don't do this, it doesn't matter how much you study, it doesn't matter how much you read and listen, you will not be able to keep that information.

    fewer distractions ➟ better focus.

  2. Take notes.
How can you increase your focus now that you're not distracted?

How can you focus on this one thing that you are trying to learn?
    By taking notes.

You have to take notes while you are listening to something important
If you're reading a book, make notes on the book, highlight certain sentences and paragraphs that make you go, whoa, this is powerful. Paragraphs that you want to go back to and review. You have to do this.

You have to highlight information, you have to try to write down important points or ideas from your studies and lessons so that you can review them later. If not, you will forget almost all of the new information after a few minutes.
And that's going to take us to the next step, and without taking notes, you're not going to be able to go to the next step and you are not going to remember that information.

  3. Review the information.
Anything that we learn without reviewing, without going back and going over what we learned, it will go in from one year and out from the other.
Just like reviewing for an exam, why do you review the chapters and your notes before an exam? Because you forgot it all. LOL

Without revision, you forget what you learned.

And of course reviewing information will increase your focus and strengthens your connection with that information.

This will help you remember the information longer and you will be able to use that information to your benefit.

You'll be able to try to take action using the information that you learned, with that with the knowledge that you gained, and this will, in turn, help you improve your skills.

Stop making AI decisions in the dark. Understand AI usage.

Leadership is asking: are we getting value from AI? Which tools are worth the spend? Where are we exposed? Right now, most teams have no idea.

Harmonic Security Usage Explorer changes that. It automatically classifies every AI interaction across your organization into the use cases driving real work, specific to your business. Not generic categories. Not raw prompts. Actual patterns to understand: how your teams are using AI, how much time they spend in AI, the cost, and where risk lives.

CIOs get the data to rationalize spend and cut wasted licenses. CISOs get risk in context. AI committees get proof of impact.

  4. Teach it to someone else.

This is where the importance of having a powerful circle, a powerful social and professional circle comes in.

If you have a powerful group of people, or if you have a friend who is on the same path of learning, growing, and you push each other, you support each other, then when you learn something new, you know that your friend, or family member is going to want to hear what you just read, listened to and learned.
So you share that with them.

If you don’t have that circle yet, then share it on social media.

If there is something that you learned that can benefit someone else,
    share it with them.

This is something I learned in a book Limitless by Jim Kwik.
He says if you want to remember something longer, if you want to learn something deeply, teach it to someone else.

I'll never forget that because it is such a powerful technique.

I have benefited from this hack a lot personally as a teacher and content creator. Like I became a teacher and content creator by becoming a learner again. I share important tips and advice that I learn from a book or lecture with my students and online on social media with my followers.

I read a book or part of a book that inspired me in a way, then I make a video or podcast lesson about it.

Of course, I share that information because I want other people to learn from it, but also, it has such a huge benefit for myself as it makes me remember that information much much longer and not forget it

I hope this was helpful and if it was, please let me know.

Much love,
