Stop Using AI Like Google to Learn English

They open ChatGPT and say:

“Teach me English.”

Or:

“Give me 20 phrasal verbs.”

Or:

“Write me an essay for class.”

AI gives them an answer.

They read it.

Maybe they practice for five minutes.

Then tomorrow, they ask something completely different.

Why is this a terrible way to use AI?

Because there is no system. No routine. No connection between yesterday’s lesson and today’s lesson.

You’re basically using AI like Google.

But AI can do something much more powerful.

Copy this into ChatGPT:

Create a 6-month plan to help me improve my English fluency and work on my pronunciation. I have 30 minutes every day to study. Before you create the plan, ask me questions so you can personalize the course for me.

Notice what happened?

You didn’t say:

“Teach me English.”

You gave AI a clear job.

And more importantly:

Now YOU are in control. Not AI.

AI should not decide randomly what you study every day.

You should tell it your goal, and AI should help you build the system and plan to follow.

It might ask:

What is your English level?

Why are you learning English?

What do you want to improve most: speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, pronunciation, or grammar?

What topics are you interested in?

What is your native language?

What are your biggest problems with English?

These are the same kinds of questions a good teacher should ask before creating a learning plan.

Because a good teacher doesn’t teach random lessons.

A good teacher follows a plan.

Your AI tutor should do the same.

Give AI one clear job

This is another important change.

Instead of asking AI random questions, give it a role.

For example:

“You are my English speaking coach.”

Or:

“You are my pronunciation teacher.”

Or:

“You are my writing tutor. When I write something unnatural, show me a more natural way to say it.”

The clearer the task, the more useful AI becomes.

Then build a simple routine around it.

For example, if you have 30 minutes or one hour per day:

15 minutes: Learn through a short story (you can add this to the prompt by the way)
15 minutes: Review vocabulary
15 minutes: Practice speaking
15 minutes: Practice writing and review what you learned

Now you’re not opening ChatGPT and wondering:

“What should I study today?”

You already have a plan.

The real secret isn’t AI

AI can create hundreds of lessons for you.

It can explain vocabulary.

It can create stories.

It can practice conversations with you.

It can review your writing.

It can help you speak.

But none of that matters if you use it once this week and then disappear for ten days.

The real secret is consistency.

Choose a specific time.

Maybe every morning after you make your coffee.

Maybe every afternoon at 4:00.

Maybe immediately after your workout.

Connect English practice to something you already do.

Then show up.

30 minutes every day with a clear system is much more powerful than studying randomly whenever you feel motivated.

“Make this easier.”

If it’s too easy:

“Make this more challenging.”

“Give me a different story.”

If something doesn’t sound natural:

“Rewrite this the way a native speaker would naturally say it.”

Before tomorrow’s lesson:

“Give me a quick review of what we studied yesterday.”

That’s when AI stops feeling like a search engine.

It starts becoming your tutor.
